The Supreme Court struck down Harvard’s and University of North Carolina’s affirmative action efforts 6–3, continuing the Robert’s court deep efforts to undue civil rights gains won over the past 60 years.
Every justice on the supreme court benefited from affirmative action to get into and through university, and into every post law school job, and finally onto the very job that allows them to undue civil rights gains our parents and grandparents protested, fought, died, were beaten, and voted for.
Just like with women’s right to an abortion, the Supreme Court is upholding and reinforcing both the patriarch and white supremacy.
American history made it illegal for Black people to learn. It was illegal to read, to have a school, and of course to attend university, unless we were building them, being sold to pay school debts, or cleaning and maintaining them. The story of Georgetown is one of many examples of a school recognizing its role in enslavement and white supremacy.

But Black folk were not to be stopped. Our ancestors (many still living) created their own schools, trained their own teachers, and taught their children the value of education as a way to liberation and better lives.
My own grandparents attended school in the south that was K-12 — in one room with two teachers.
It is worth noting that schools that primarily serve Black students are underfunded by billions of dollars even now.
Legacy of Jim Crow still affects funding for public schools

The ruling doesn’t end affirmative action — that is only half the truth.
The ruling ends affirmative action for Black people. It keeps intact affirmative action for white people which is why the court didn’t invalidate legacy, donor, employee families and special recommendations which are still allowed and are almost exclusively utilized by white students.
It is also important to note that affirmative action benefits white women the most and that about 70% of white women support ending affirmative action as this excerpt from Teenvogue explains:
“Despite these impressive gains for white women, approximately 70% of them somewhat or strongly oppose affirmative action, according to the 2014 Cooperative Congressional Election Study. Many scholars, myself included, argue this opposition is clearly related to right-wing anti-affirmative action campaigns that have successfully focused national attention on race-based affirmative action.”

While the Supreme Court upholds white supremacy for universities, at the K-12 schools, the Moms for Liberty are furiously working to end all teaching about Black history and to ban books from Black and other POC authors.
The marriage and alignment of the Supreme Court and Moms for Liberty will have devastating consequences for education in America for everyone, not just Black folk.
MOMS FOR LIBERTY ARE DOMESTIC TERRORISTS
Does that headline bother you? Do you think it is extreme or hyperbole? Or maybe you think the headline is clickbait…
Black Americans are fighting wars on multiple fronts trying to stem the ever present tide of dirty water that is educational white supremacy and we can’t do it alone. We need the rest of the democrats so-called big tent to help us out, especially but not exclusively, white women.
The same folk who benefit the most from affirmative action have by majority voted against democratic presidential candidates since the 1960’s.
Make that make sense.

The only way to change the system is to vote for Democrats in every local and national election. No republican running for any office will work to ensure equality, equity, inclusion, or diversity. None will advocate for fair public school funding. None will work to dismantle white supremacy, unfair college admissions, or student debt relief.
Folk won’t be complaining about student debt when you can’t get into universities in the first place.
All voting is local and also all voting is national.
In the 2016 presidential election Hillary Clinton prophesied that if Trump wins he could reshape the supreme court by appointing 4 justices:
“In a speech in Wisconsin, Clinton put the future of the Supreme Court at the center of the election debate, cautioning that any Trump-appointed justices would be likely to roll back workers’ and abortion rights and “demolish pillars of the progressive movement.” Hillary Clinton, March 28th, 2016

With the 2024 election on the horizon the ruling by the supreme court will galvanize republican voters who are feeling victory today. They will want to preserve the ruling, preseve the ban on abortion, and preserve patriarchol white supremacy..
Democratic voters must be more motivated to change the course the nation is headed in. The message from republicans is clear and the message from democrats, in the form of overwhelming voting responses must be clearer still: We are not going backwards, the rights of everyone will be respected, our full history will be taught, and we will continue to work to unravel the remaining vestiges of racism in all its forms and wherever it reaches.
