The same energy that allowed the confederates to return and expand their racist power that to this day harms indigenous and Black folk. The call for pardons-coming from left and right.. white people and media rips off the facade of equal justice under the law.
We really need to self-interrogate why the calls for justice are so strong for say, Jussie Smollett or Will Smith but not for Donald Trump. Or killer Kyle Rittenhouse, Brock Turner, or <insert name of any of a number of killer cops>.
Let’s recall that Trump professed to love law and order, and called on the Department of Justice to prosecute Hillary Clinton, President Obama, and to give instant death penalty to drug dealers and others.

Again, it’s really isn’t right or left, red or blue, democrats or republican. It’s white Americans who find grace for white perpetrators of crime equal to the lack of grace they afforded to Black, brown, indigenous folk who commit crime. This isn’t controversial or a surprise to any grown up.
We all know it.
And we all know about Trump demanding the death penalty for the Central Park Five by taking out a full page ad in the New York Times.. and repeated his call even after the men were exonerated. He deserves what he has long dished out.

It’s not only regular folk of course who are calling for Trump to be pardoned. It’s new and old media, too. All owned by wealthy white men who have other mostly white men and women on air and on the frontpage offering long takes on why trump should be pardoned. They breathlessly say that a pardon is “good for the nation” when they really mean a pardon is good for preserving the ultimate power of whiteness so that it always stands above .. everything and every non-white person and citizen.
Pardoning Trump settles into the self-importance and unassailable belief that the modern world and everything good about it is because whiteness made it so. Therefore whiteness should always be allowed grace from accountability.
That reasoning is insidious and powerful, and it permeates all levels of society, media, and law enforcement.
The very length of the investigation highlights the grace given to whiteness because as millions have said-here and abroad- we absolutely know Obama would not have been given 1/10th the time or grace trump has and is still being given.
Trump is the biggest traitor this country has ever seen.
Why? Because he’s the first and only president who has given and/or sold nuclear secrets, US military vulnerabilities, and those two offenses could literally destroy the nation and kill hundreds of millions or even billions of humans.
Despite that folk such as Rachel Maddow, Republican presidential candidates, republican senators and representatives, and old and new media are asking –begging– to pardon him.
It’s damning to witness and it’s damn unforgivable.
You know who isn’t calling for trump to be pardoned?
Black folk.
Latino/Hispanic folk.
Indigenous folk.
And those of us whose communities are overrun with violent cops, “tough on crime” District Attorneys that white people vote into office.
We want him locked up for good, and for him to be perp walked, and forced to rot for the remainder of his racist miserable life.
Just like our ancestors wanted those racist confederates to.
Hopefully our white co-citizens who will serve on his eventual federal and Georgia juries side with us and not US history.
